In what general areas are you most interested?

Below we have listed general career areas and some skills required to succeed in those areas. Take a few minutes to read the description for each general area and complete the following steps, keeping in mind that during this phase of the process it is important to keep your options open! If something sounds remotely appealing to you, or even if you just have no idea what a particular major is—mark it for now—you can always cross it off later!

    • Print this list of Illinois State Majors. You will use it as you work your way through the steps on this section of the Web site. Circle the General Areas which sound most appealing to you.
    • In the information below, look at the required skills under the General Areas of interest which you circled. Do you currently possess some of those skills (look back at your “Learn About Yourself Reflection Activity”)? If not, what steps can you take in the near future to do so?
    • Next, click on the category below to see a list of majors, skills specific to those majors, and a sample of what jobs are available for individuals with that major. Which appeal to you? On your printed list, place a star next to several which you will next learn more about. Remember - keep your options open for now. This is the exploration phase of the process!
